🖨 PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

The standard pattern files are designed for US Letter paper and should be printed at 100% / Actual Size unless intentionally reducing the larger pattern.

If US Letter files are printed on A4 paper, the final output will be reduced to approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions. No manual 97.7% scaling setting is required.

45×60" version

The larger size includes an additional A2 printing format.

The A2 version is particularly useful for a quilt of this scale because larger sheets allow more of each FPP section to be printed together, which means:

✔ Fewer pages
✔ Less cutting and taping
✔ Faster pattern preparation
✔ Easier management of large sections before sewing

For best results, the A2 files should be printed at 100% / Actual Size by a professional print or copy shop.

📐 NEED A CUSTOM QUILT SIZE?

24×32"

Reducing the 24×32" version is not recommended.

At this size, some of the smaller facial and detail pieces are already compact. Further reduction may make them unnecessarily difficult to handle and sew accurately.

45×60"

The larger pattern may be reduced if you want a finished quilt somewhere between the two available sizes.

Use this formula:

(Desired size ÷ Pattern size) × 100 = Print percentage

For example, to reduce the 45×60" pattern to approximately 36×48":

36 ÷ 45 × 100 = 80%

Print the complete pattern at 80%.

All pieces and seam allowances will be reduced proportionally. The sewing lines still determine the final assembled dimensions, but very significant reductions will naturally create smaller pieces.

Enlarging the pattern beyond 100% is not recommended.

🎯 SKILL LEVEL

Beginner to Intermediate

This pattern is suitable for confident beginners who already have some experience with Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), as well as intermediate quilters looking for a detailed animal portrait.

The pattern is divided into 38 sections, allowing the portrait to be constructed progressively rather than as one large continuous unit.

24×32"

The smaller format requires relatively little workspace and keeps pattern preparation manageable. However, some of the facial, ear, and fur details become quite small at this scale, so accurate stitching, good lighting, and careful fabric placement are important.

45×60"

The larger size gives you more comfortable individual pieces and better visibility while sewing. It does require more workspace and more preparation, particularly when using US Letter pages.

For this reason, the included A2 version is strongly recommended if you have access to large-format printing. It considerably reduces taping and simplifies preparation of the larger FPP sections.
