🖨 PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS
30×30"
The pattern is supplied in US Letter format and can be printed on a standard home printer.
Print at 100% / Actual Size to maintain the intended dimensions.
50×50"
The pattern is supplied in US Letter format.
Because this version contains more printed pages than the 30" pattern, allow additional time and workspace for trimming and assembling the printed sections before sewing.
70×70"
The FPP Color pattern is supplied in two printing formats:
• US Letter - suitable for standard home printers
• A2 - designed for professional large-format printing
For a pattern of this size, the A2 version is strongly recommended whenever possible. Larger sheets dramatically reduce the number of printed pages that need to be trimmed and taped together, making pattern preparation considerably faster and easier.
The A2 file should be printed at 100% / Actual Size by your print shop or copy center.
Printing on A4 paper
The standard home-printing files are designed for US Letter paper.
If a US Letter file is printed at 100% on A4 instead, the final output will be reduced to approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions.
No manual 97.7% scaling setting is required ; this is simply the approximate size reduction resulting from printing a US Letter document on A4 paper.
📐 NEED A CUSTOM QUILT SIZE?
Enlarging
To resize the design, use the standard scaling formula:
(Desired size ÷ Pattern size) × 100 = Print percentage
👉 Example: resizing a 30" pattern to 24" = (24 ÷ 30) × 100 = 80 %
(I do not recommend going below approximately 20×20").
When reducing an FPP pattern, remember that all pieces and seam allowances are reduced proportionally. The finished dimensions determined by the sewing lines remain proportional to the selected print percentage, but very significant reductions will make both the pieces and seam allowances smaller and more demanding to handle.
Enlarging
Do not enlarge the pattern beyond 100%.
These files are designed for reduction only. Increasing the print percentage above the original size is not supported.
🎯 ABOUT COMPLEXITY
Intermediate.
This pattern is suitable for confident beginners who already have some experience with Foundation Paper Piecing, as well as intermediate and experienced FPP quilters looking for a detailed portrait project.
The overall difficulty changes slightly depending on the selected size.
30×30"
The smaller format requires less workspace and considerably less page assembly, but some individual pieces are quite compact.
Accurate sewing, good lighting, and careful fabric placement are especially important at this scale.
50×50"
The 50" version offers a comfortable balance between piece size and overall project size.
Individual pieces are easier to handle and sewing lines are easier to read than on the smaller version, although the printed pattern requires more preparation and assembly.
70×70"
The largest version offers the most comfortable piece sizes and excellent visibility while sewing.
The main challenge is logistical rather than technical: you will need more workspace and more time to organize the sections.
If you choose this size, the included A2 FPP Color file is highly recommended to reduce page assembly and simplify the preparation process.
