🧵 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
Fabric quantities are presented more clearly to make purchasing easier.
For each fabric color, the pattern provides:
• Minimum fabric – the estimated amount required for the pattern
• Recommended purchase – a practical purchasing quantity expressed in yards
Recommended purchase quantities include additional allowance for cutting and are rounded up to convenient yardage increments.
This allows you to see both the calculated requirement and the amount recommended when buying your fabric.
🖨 PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS
Each size includes two complete FPP printing formats:
• US Letter – for standard home printing
• A2 – for professional or large-format printing
Print at 100% / Actual Size to obtain the intended finished dimensions.
The new Print & Assembly Reference page includes dedicated scale checks:
• US Letter: 1" × 1" test square
• A2: 1" × 1" and 5 × 5 cm test squares
These allow you to verify the print scale before preparing the complete pattern.
If printing the US Letter version on A4 paper instead, the final output will be reduced to approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions. No manual scaling to 97.7% is required.
The A2 version considerably reduces the number of sheets that need to be trimmed, aligned, and taped together, particularly for the 50×50" and 70×70" sizes.
🔗 PAGE NUMBERING & GLUE EDGE INDEX
The FPP files now include additional assembly references designed to make large patterns easier to organize.
Every FPP sheet is clearly numbered with its page number and total page count.
A dedicated Glue Edge index lists each Glue Edge number together with the exact FPP pages where it appears. This makes it much faster to locate matching edges when assembling sections printed across several sheets.
These references are provided separately for the US Letter and A2 versions.
📐 RESIZING
The 30×30" version is the smallest available size. Further reduction is not recommended because some facial and geometric details are already compact.
The 50×50" and 70×70" versions can be reduced proportionally.
Use:
(Desired size ÷ Pattern size) × 100 = Print percentage
For example, to reduce the 50×50" pattern to 40×40":
(40 ÷ 50) × 100 = 80%
Print at 80%.
All pieces and seam allowances decrease proportionally. The finished dimensions are determined by the sewing lines, so the design retains its original proportions.
Significant reductions may make detailed pieces harder to sew. Choose the available size closest to your intended dimensions whenever possible.
Enlargement beyond 100% is not recommended.
🎯 SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate – Previous Foundation Paper Piecing experience recommended.
This pattern contains 762 pieces distributed across 66 sections. The Boxer’s facial features and smaller geometric transitions require accurate fabric positioning and careful sewing.
At 30×30", the pieces are smaller and require greater precision, but the project uses less workspace and fewer printed sheets.
At 50×50", the individual shapes are more comfortable to handle while the overall project remains manageable.
At 70×70", the detailed pieces are the most comfortable to sew, but the larger sections require considerably more workspace and organization. Using the included A2 version can significantly reduce paper preparation and taping.
