🖨 PRINTING & SCALE
Print at 100% / Actual Size for the stated finished dimensions. Do not use Fit to Page, Scale to Fit, Shrink to Fit or another automatic scaling option.
Measure the 1 × 1-inch scale-check square before printing the remaining pattern pages.
A2 is an alternative printing format for the same finished quilt size. It uses fewer sheets and requires less paper joining. Use an A2-compatible printer or a print shop, print at 100% / Actual Size and check the scale tests, including the 5 × 5 cm square.
If the US Letter file is printed on A4, the final output will be reduced to approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions. Do not manually set the printer to 97.7%.
.
🧵 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
Use the fabric requirements and color references supplied with your selected size to plan your fabrics. Keep the fabrics labeled so that the purple, orange and pale highlights remain correctly placed against the dark background.
.
📐 RESIZING
The supplied patterns produce the stated finished dimensions at 100%. For a smaller quilt, use:
(Desired size ÷ Pattern size) × 100 = Print percentage
For example, reducing the 50-inch pattern to 45 inches requires 90% printing. All pieces and seam allowances decrease proportionally.
The 30-inch version is the smallest size currently offered. Further reduction is possible, but is not recommended for sewing comfort: the smallest pieces and seam allowances will become even smaller. Choose to reduce it only if you are comfortable sewing very tiny pieces and working with proportionally narrower seam allowances.
Enlargement beyond 100% is not recommended.
.
🎯 SKILL LEVEL
Careful piecing is needed around the eye sockets, nose, teeth and jaw, where small angular shapes create the facial detail. Accurate fabric placement preserves the contrast between the colored facets and the surrounding dark areas.
The 30-inch version has the most compact details. The 50-inch and 70-inch versions give more room within those pieces, but require more workspace for preparing the paper and handling completed sections.
Keep the section labels visible and follow the supplied assembly guidance when joining the 51 sections. No Y-seams are required. The Paper Piecing Tutorial explains the technique; previous FPP experience will help with the finer details.

🎁 PERFECT FOR
Obsidian Skull suits a gothic wall hanging, a Halloween quilt project or a handmade textile gift for someone who enjoys skull imagery and geometric artwork.
