OWL is a Foundation Paper Piecing quilt pattern featuring an owl in flight above snow, with raised wings, angular blue and white feathers and a golden eye against a dark winter landscape.
The design contains 405 pieces, 63 sections and 9 fabric colors. Three finished sizes share the same tall 5:7 proportions.
.
📐 AVAILABLE SIZES
Each size is sold separately. Your purchase includes one selected size only, not all three.
30 × 42 inches — US Letter Color and a separate complete Blank pattern.
50 × 70 inches — Color patterns in US Letter and A2.
70 × 98 inches — Color patterns in US Letter and A2.
For the two larger sizes, both printing formats are included with the selected size. A2 produces the same finished quilt dimensions as US Letter.

🖨 PRINTING & SCALE
Color pattern page counts: 30 × 42 US Letter — 38; 50 × 70 US Letter — 96 and A2 — 22; 70 × 98 US Letter — 190 and A2 — 43.
Commercial Color page counts exclude reference/index pages and Blank appendices. Physical PDF totals include the additional pages.
Physical PDF totals: 30 × 42 Color — 39 and separate Blank — 39; 50 × 70 US Letter — 101 and A2 — 24; 70 × 98 US Letter — 199 and A2 — 46.
Print at 100% / Actual Size for the stated finished dimensions. Disable Fit to Page and other automatic scaling options, and check the scale-test square before printing the remaining pages.
A2 uses fewer sheets and requires less paper joining. Use an A2-compatible printer or print shop for this format.
Printing the US Letter file on A4 produces approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions. This is the resulting scale, not a percentage to enter manually.

🧵 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
Use the fabric requirements and color references supplied with your selected size. Distinguish the technical minimum from the recommended purchase quantity shown in OPEN FIRST.
The nine-color palette combines deep blue, teal, lighter blues, white, black and a golden eye accent. Follow your size-specific color key: color numbers are not identical across every size.
.
📐 RESIZING
To reduce the design proportionally, use (Desired width ÷ Pattern width) × 100 = Print percentage. Apply the same percentage to both dimensions to preserve the 5:7 proportions. Pieces and seam allowances decrease proportionally. Enlargement beyond 100% is not recommended.
For example, printing the 50 × 70-inch pattern at 80% produces 40 × 56 inches.
Further reduction of the 30 × 42-inch version is possible, but is not recommended for sewing comfort: the smallest pieces and seam allowances become even smaller. Reduce it only if you are comfortable sewing very tiny pieces and working with proportionally narrower seam allowances.
.
🎯 SKILL LEVEL
Careful sewing and fabric placement are needed around the eye, face and narrow feather shapes, especially where the wing tips form sharp points. Keep section labels visible and follow the supplied assembly order for the 63 sections, A–BK.
The 30 × 42-inch version has the most compact details. The 50 × 70-inch and 70 × 98-inch versions give more room within individual pieces, while paper preparation and completed sections require more workspace.
No Y-seams are required. The Paper Piecing Tutorial explains the technique; previous FPP experience will help with the finer details.

🎁 PERFECT FOR
OWL suits a winter bird wall hanging, a woodland quilt project or a handmade textile gift for someone fascinated by owls in flight.

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE — DIGITAL PATTERN
This listing is for a DIGITAL Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) pattern. No physical product will be shipped.
Please review the pattern size, contents and project information before purchasing. Patterns are sold by size; a different size requires a separate purchase unless otherwise stated.
Due to the nature of digital products, returns, exchanges and cancellations are generally not accepted for change of mind, purchasing the wrong size, personal preference, or dissatisfaction with the level of difficulty.
This does not affect any mandatory consumer rights that may apply.
If you believe your pattern contains an error, is missing content, is defective, or does not correspond to the listing, please contact me with details of the page, section or piece concerned. I will review the issue and, where appropriate, provide clarification, a corrected file or a replacement file.
The 30 × 42-inch version includes a separate complete Blank US Letter pattern without color-number labels. The 50 × 70-inch and 70 × 98-inch versions include Blank references for section A within the Color PDFs, rather than separate complete Blank patterns. Use the supplied color and section references together.
A preference for a different FPP methodology, a misunderstanding of the supplied instructions, or a minor labeling or presentation issue that does not prevent the relevant piece from being identified or the pattern from being assembled does not by itself mean that the digital product is defective.
For EU consumers: this is digital content supplied for immediate access. Any statutory rights applicable to defective or non-conforming digital content remain unaffected.
