Description

Santa Claus Quilt Pattern PDF – Christmas Foundation Paper Piecing Portrait

This Santa Claus Foundation Paper Piecing quilt pattern turns the classic Christmas figure into a detailed geometric portrait, with a full white beard, traditional red suit and strong angular piecing.

The design contains 495 pieces, 65 sections and 11 fabric colors and is available in three finished sizes. Each size uses the same Santa artwork but offers a different balance between compactness, piece size and pattern preparation.

.

📐 AVAILABLE SIZES

• 30 × 40" — US Letter
• 36 × 52" — US Letter + A2
• 50 × 65" — US Letter + A2

The 30 × 40" version is the most compact option. The larger versions provide more space within the detailed facial features, beard and hat, while requiring more working space during final assembly.

.

The FPP files include a Print Scale Check, numbered FPP pages and Glue Edge Index to make printing and page assembly easier to organize.

.

🖨 PRINTING & SCALE

Print all FPP files at 100% / Actual Size. Do not use Fit to Page, Scale to Fit or automatic resizing.

US Letter files include a 1" × 1" scale test.

A2 files include both 1" × 1" and 5 × 5 cm scale tests. For the 36 × 52" and 50 × 65" versions, A2 is the most efficient option when available: the larger paper size significantly reduces the number of pattern sheets and taped joins.

If a US Letter file is printed on A4 paper instead, the finished result will be approximately 97.7% of the intended dimensions.

.

🧵 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

The pattern uses 11 fabric colors.

Fabric charts are based on 43"-wide quilting fabric and show both the technical minimum fabric requirement and a practical recommended purchase amount in yardage for each color.

The recommended amount includes a small cutting allowance to reduce the risk of running short.

.

📐 RESIZING

The 30 × 40" version already concentrates 495 pieces into the most compact format offered here. Further intentional reduction is not recommended because the detailed facial features and beard contain small pieces requiring accurate sewing.

The 36 × 52" and 50 × 65" versions can be reduced proportionally when needed:

(Desired size ÷ Pattern size) × 100 = Print percentage

For example, printing the 36 × 52" version at 75% produces approximately 27 × 39". Printing the 50 × 65" version at 80% produces approximately 40 × 52".

Remember that all pieces and seam allowances are reduced at the same time. Significant downscaling therefore increases the precision required. Enlargement above 100% is not recommended.

.

🎯 SKILL LEVEL

This is an intermediate FPP project. The construction uses 495 pieces across 65 sections, with the most precise work concentrated around Santa’s eyes, nose, moustache, beard and hat.

The 30 × 40" version requires the greatest accuracy because the same design details are concentrated into a smaller finished area.

The 36 × 52" and 50 × 65" versions provide larger, easier-to-read pieces, but require more page preparation and more space during final assembly. The included A2 files reduce this preparation substantially by cutting the number of printed sheets and joins.

No Y-seams are required.

.

🎁 PERFECT FOR

A strong choice for Christmas portrait quilts, seasonal wall hangings, holiday sewing projects and handmade gifts for Santa and traditional Christmas lovers.

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE — DIGITAL PATTERN

This listing is for a DIGITAL Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) pattern. No physical product will be shipped.

Please review the pattern size, contents and project information before purchasing. Each purchase includes only the size selected at checkout; another size requires a separate purchase unless otherwise stated.

Due to the nature of digital products, returns, exchanges and cancellations are generally not accepted for change of mind, purchasing the wrong size, personal preference, or dissatisfaction with the level of difficulty.

This does not affect any mandatory consumer rights that may apply.

If you believe your pattern contains an error, is missing content, is defective, or does not correspond to the listing, please contact me with details of the page, section or piece concerned. I will review the issue and, where appropriate, provide clarification, a corrected file or a replacement file.

For the 30 × 40" version, the Color FPP and Blank FPP files are complementary documents designed to be used together. The Color FPP provides color references, while the Blank FPP intentionally omits color-number labels for a clearer view of dense sewing lines.

The 36 × 52" and 50 × 65" versions use Color FPP files in both US Letter and A2 formats and do not include a separate Blank FPP file.

A preference for a different FPP methodology, a misunderstanding of the supplied instructions, or a minor labeling or presentation issue that does not prevent the relevant piece from being identified or the pattern from being assembled does not by itself mean that the digital product is defective.

For EU consumers: this is digital content supplied for immediate access. Any statutory rights applicable to defective or non-conforming digital content remain unaffected.

Loving it

Loving it. I have converted to use similar fabric colors in moda grunge. I really like the markings you include for lining up the pieces and trimming the corners.
